daytripping: dumbo

living in greenpoint means dealing with the temperamental g train- and it's especially rough this summer, when service just shuts down on the weekends in the name of post-Sandy repairs. rather than feeling restricted to the bounds of our neighborhood, my boyfriend and i have been exploring more of our fair borough, and we have the east river ferry to thank for that.

this past sunday, we headed over to dumbo & brooklyn bridge park. last week's brutal heatwave was all but forgotten as we sipped smoothies at the waterfront, wandered the cobblestone streets and scoped out the pop-up pool for future weekend adventures.

I love the story behind Jane's Carousel. It's been beautifully and lovingly restored and there were some pretty happy little patrons enjoying it that day.

weekend getaway: sleepy hollow & kykuit

we took a super last minute (as in, booked it about an hour before we left the house) trip up to sleepy hollow for the long weekend. it was awesome to just get out of the city and hang out in nature for a second, and it's seriously only forty minutes away via metro north.

before heading back, we took a tour of kykuit, the rockefeller estate. besides the house itself and the gorgeous grounds & sculpture gardens, you're taken down into the private art galleries containing works by calder & picasso. we totally could have wandered around all day taking everything in.
